We all know that Elvis fans are rather obsessive. They know just what they like - and what they don't.
And that also makes them very difficult to please when it comes to gifts. They can be very picky - and they may already have what you're thinking of buying, or an equivalent.
So how do you go about finding the perfect gift for a devoted Elvis fan?
Well, the key thing to understand first is what they actually like. Some Elvis fans are into memorabilia: original posters, photos and signatures for example. Others like to wear their support for the King visibly with jewellery or clothing. Others like the kitsch of Elvis cuckoo clocks, ash-trays and lampshades.
Take a look at what they already have. Are they always wearing Elvis branded clothing? Is their house filled with fun Elvis kitsch? Or are they into serious collecting?
This will tell you what sort of thing to buy for them. A serious collector probably won't be interested in cuddly Elvis slippers. But they may be interested in original posters or artwork.
The best place to look for the serious collector is usually eBay. But caveat emptor applies. Ebay listings are often filled with strange items like locks of hair or snippets of clothing. Best to steer clear of these unless you're sure it's something they'd appreciate. Records, books and posters are much safer ground.
For fun collectors, novelty is the key. Make sure you know what they already have (it'll probably take a visit to their house to see, or a word with someone who knows them well). Then buy them something in the same vein - but that they don't have.
Finally, for those who like to wear their love of Elvis with pride, the key is to find something that matches their style. Some may prefer gaudy items, with huge pictures of Elvis on them. Others may prefer something more subtle - where the Elvis element is simply a logo or a piece of detail. Make sure you get something in keeping with their style - and, of course, in the right size.
